Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Available in Pittsburgh

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), sometimes referred to as “Liquid Gold” is a platelet concentrated component of our own blood which contains vital cells for wound healing and cellular regeneration. Platelets are cells that circulate within our body and are responsible for recognizing and repairing damaged cells by forming a plug or clot. Plasma, the liquid component of our blood, contains growth factors and nutrient rich cells and is primarily responsible for transporting these nutrients within the body. PRP therapy uses the body’s own healing processes to rejuvenate the skin and promote new cell growth. This process involves drawing the patient’s blood, spinning it in a special centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma from the rest of the blood, then using this highly concentrated PRP for treatment.

What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)?

PRP is a natural treatment that uses the healing components of your own blood to stimulate tissue regeneration, collagen production, and cellular repair. It is commonly used in aesthetic medicine, hair restoration, joint therapy, and skin rejuvenation.

How is PRP made?

A small amount of your blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge, which separates the platelet-rich plasma from other blood components. The concentrated PRP, rich in growth factors, is then injected or applied to the targeted area.

What is PRP used for?

PRP is used in a variety of treatments, including:

  • Facial rejuvenation (to improve texture, fine lines, and tone)
  • Hair restoration (to stimulate hair growth in thinning areas)
  • The “Vampire Facial” (microneedling + PRP)
  • O-Shot® and P-Shot® (for sexual wellness)
  • Joint pain or injury recovery (in orthopedic or sports medicine)
Is PRP treatment painful?

Most procedures involve minimal discomfort. Numbing cream or local anesthesia may be used depending on the treatment area to ensure a comfortable experience.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime varies based on the procedure. Facial treatments may involve mild redness or swelling for 1–3 days. Hair or joint treatments usually have little to no downtime.

When will I see results?

Results develop gradually as the PRP stimulates natural healing. Skin and hair improvements are often seen within a few weeks, with continued enhancement over several months.

How many sessions are needed?

A series of treatments (typically 3–4 sessions spaced several weeks apart) is recommended for optimal results, with maintenance sessions every 6–12 months.

Is PRP safe?

Yes. Since PRP is derived from your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction or rejection is extremely low. It’s a safe, natural alternative to synthetic treatments.
