Sclerotherapy from Lamb Medical
Sclerotherapy Available in Pittsburgh
How does it work?
A medical-grade solution (usually a saline or detergent-based sclerosant) is injected into the targeted vein. This irritates the vein lining, causing it to seal shut. The treated vein is then gradually absorbed by the body, and blood is rerouted through healthier veins.
What types of veins can be treated?
Sclerotherapy is ideal for:
- Spider veins (small, red or purple surface veins)
- Reticular veins (blue or green veins just beneath the skin)
- Small varicose veins
Is the procedure painful?
The injections are typically well-tolerated, with most patients experiencing only a slight burning or cramping sensation during the treatment.
How long does a session take?
Each session usually lasts 15–45 minutes, depending on the number and size of veins being treated.
Is there any downtime?
There is little to no downtime. You can resume most normal activities right away, though you may be advised to wear compression stockings for a few days and avoid strenuous exercise or sun exposur
When will I see results?
Improvement is usually seen within 3–6 weeks for small veins and up to a few months for larger veins. Multiple sessions may be needed for optimal results.
Are the results permanent?
Treated veins are permanently closed, but new veins can develop over time. Maintenance treatments may be needed in the future.
Is Sclerotherapy safe?
Yes, it is a well-established and safe procedure when performed by a trained provider. Mild side effects like bruising, redness, or temporary swelling may occur.
